Theodore: I will be traveling through Turkey, Syria, & Palestine the end of May with my two adult children and wish to stay in Maaloula more than the couple of hours the custom tour I'm arranging is currently allowing. Can you help me connect with the nuns to possibly allow the three of us to stay in the convent overnight as you did? God speed on the rest of your travels!

Hello Theodore!

It seems you were in Egypt at the right time. Things usually work themselves out and for you it happened with this unexpected last chance to visit Babylon after all. I thouroughly enjoyed your reports, especially those related to Alexander the Great of course, for you have a keen eye for detail and people, and you know how to relate your impressions. In a way I feel sad this voyage has come to an end, for it was so comfortable to travel along with you and see the different countries and customs through your eyes. Thank you so much for all these hours of enjoyable reading and for your great pictures.

I do hope to read more of your travel adventures in the future. Is there a way to inform your faithful readers about your plans?

Wishing you all the best,
Leonie

I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed reading your posts over these past several months. As an archaeologist, I can honestly say that Alexander has always been my hero. To trace his incredible journey on foot, especially in an area filled with such political strife, is a remarkable feat and one that surely would impress even the Macedonian king himself. If you've got more of the Babylon visit to tell, I'd love to hear it. The best of luck in your next endeavor!

Amazing pictures! You really have an eye for details. What impressed me most were the traces of bitumen that are still visible - I had no idea.

I'm still looking forward to reading Part II about your Babylon experience though...

HURRAY!
your determination is
an inspiration to me...
i saw it 1st hand:
it nearly killed me.
what blog am my going to wake-up to?
may have to send you on the road again.
get home fro christmas,
let us feed you, wash clothes,
debrief you and, yes, even hug you.
then, we can discuss your
next assignment.
